Frequently Asked Questions
How do I register?
You may register online! For those
who do not have an Internet connection, there will be a computer
available at the ESC registration office (in Soccer World, 223 W.
Randolph) when the office is open (see Calendar). You may mail in
your fee and copy of child's birth certificate.
What is required for new player registration?
Register online, pay the appropriate fee, and submit a copy of your
child's birth certificate. We must have a copy of each player's
birth certificate on file for insurance purposes. See Registrar
Policy Letter for other acceptable proof of age documents.
What is the refund Policy?
See the
Registrar Policy Letter.
If I played in the fall, do I need to
re-register in the spring?
Yes. You must register online again in the spring and pay the
appropriate fee.
Do I need to submit another copy of the
birth certificate every year?
No. These will be kept on file and destroyed when
the child is too old to play.
If I coached in the fall, do I need to fill out
another Risk Management form in the spring?
No. Please update any information that has changed since the fall
season.
How are teams formed?
See the Registrar Policy
Letter.
If my daughter is highly skilled can she play
on one of the boys' teams?
No. Recreational teams are divided by gender and age group, not
according to athletic ability. Due to a lack of players, older divisions
may be co-ed. Otherwise, girls will not be assigned to boys' teams or
vice versa.
When are practices held?
This is up to the coach. Most teams practice on weekdays once or twice
per week after normal school and work hours.
What time and days are games?
Most games are scheduled on Saturdays between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm. Some
games are scheduled on weekdays, usually at 5:30 pm.
What size soccer ball do I need?
Size 3 for U5 to U8. Size 4 for U9 to U12. Size 5 for U13 and older.
What equipment and clothing does my child need
to play?
Your child will need a soccer ball (size 3, 4, or 5) for practices,
shoes with cleats, soccer socks, and shin guards (worn underneath the
socks). Each team also has matching jerseys and shorts for games. The
coach decides on the style and color of jerseys to purchase for the
team. ESC does not provide any of this equipment or clothing.
Are there different rules for youth soccer?
Yes.
ESC has adopted age-specific rules for U5 to U12. These rules
modify the international "Laws of the Game" which govern adult soccer.
Click here for the FIFA Laws of the Game.
Do I need a license to start coaching?
No. Most new coaches for the younger age groups are not certified;
however, Enid Soccer Club encourages all coaches to seek certification,
instruction in Laws of the Game, and coaching technique. There are also
many books and videos on the subject of coaching youth soccer at
bookstores and the library.
What licenses are available for soccer coaches?
Some certifications are:
Youth Module I (U6 to U8), Youth Module II (U10), and "E" (U10 to U14).
Lengths of these courses are 4 hours, 4 hours, and 16 hours
respectively. Certification can be obtained through workshops and
clinics offered by the Oklahoma Soccer Association (OSA).
Click on "Coaches" on
the OSA website for more information. Occasionally, clinics are held
in Enid. Coaches who successfully pass a course can be reimbursed by ESC
for the cost of the course.
Age Divisions
A player is assigned to a division based on his or her age on July 31
prior to the start of the fall season. Players remain in the same
division through the spring season. In other words, they do not
"promote" to the next age group until the next fall season.
Example: A child who is 7 years old on July 31 will be in the U-8 (under
8) division for the fall and spring seasons.
Minimum age to play is 4 years old on July 31st. Maximum age is 18 years
old on July 31st.
